Peering update: Telecom++ say OK to local peering

Well, following up on my previous suggestion, it seems that Telecom at least have come to the same conclusion and decided to exchange data locally.

This should be a boon for internet performance and resilience in New Zealand, should the main three networks decide upon using these peering points, because then there will be a proper market for local transit. It's a good thing - Telecom doesn't need to play nasty to leverage the commercial advantage of its network. The Free Market wins? Well, you won't catch me voting for the Libz just yet.

Quite why they needed to identify these and not just use the existing peering points remains uncertain, but I guess we'll why after they release the info today.

Let's just hope TelstraClearParadiseSatan follows suit.

Computerworld has the story (Hat tip Juha).
